Vegetarian Cookbook by Dody
If you have ever purchased one Moosewood cookbook and tried some of the recipes, then you know you need to purchase more of their cookbooks. This one has some great recipes that make you want to get in the kitchen and get busy.

This is my all-time favorite source for fail-safe recipes for tasty, healthy food. The recipes turn out well every time–nothing tricky, and always are packed with flavor, as well as a variety of good-for-you vegetables, herbs, nuts, seeds, low-fat dairy (she tells you if you can substitute soy–you usually can), optional eggs. The ingredients are available in most supermarkets–perhaps you might have to check the health food aisle for some of the grains.The biggest downside is that I tend to eat too much of what I cook–it isn’t low carb, for the most part, but with portion control, can be lower calorie. This is food that happens to be vegetarian–you could add meat to the casseroles and serve it on the side of a lot of the other dishes. It doesn’t taste at all bland, or as is often the case when vegetarian food is “made tasty”–it isn’t particularly spicy (you can always add heat if you must). This is a great way to get kids (and others) to eat a variety of vegetables, and to have a repertoire of company-worthy make ahead menus.

I loved the original Moosewood cookbook. I had borrowed it from a friend and cooked with it often. When I bought the new version, I was quite surprised at the changes in the recipes. The recipes had lowered the fat and upped the sugar content. That’s good you might say - well I didn’t know too many fat vegetarians in the 70’s. Good fats from eggs butter and cream - satisfy your hunger plus give you good nutrition. Sorry to say these revised recipes are just not as good as the old ones. I am very disappointed in this version. Plus the new photos take out the charm of the book.
I do recommend buying the original version used if you can find it.

It took longer than promised for me to receive my order. I called customer service. They sent me out another order for two day delivery at no charge to me. Both orders arrived 2 days later. I’ve ordered from Amazon a lot. This is the first time that I didn’t receive my order BEFORE they said it would be here. I was already impressed by Amazon, but now I really am.
